I've collected bird feathers for many years and after recently organizing my studio I decided to start using the materials I had on hand to create new pieces of artwork. I thought of fashioning the covers as a symbolic "wingspan" and decided that images of birds would be appropriate content for remainder of the book. I found a wonderful online resource for copyright-free images at
The Graphics Fairy. The pages were an experiment using acrylic matte gel medium image transfers. I arranged the images to be mirrored and then transferred as one piece to be folded over to form the page. Since they were semi-transparent I thought it would add some visual interest if I embedded various found ephemera into the page. I used washi tape as a reinforcement for the spine edge of each page. The book was bound with synthetic sinew.
